Youth courses (9-16 year olds) 5 days The sheltered waters of the Kyles of Bute provide an ideal safe environment for learning to sail . Derek and Fiona and their team provide instruction for small numbers each week (approx 18), ensuring that each child has sufficient individual time to develop their sailing. Our youth course are approached with the emphasis on fun, learning or improving their sailing techniques in a relaxed and stimulating environment. Children inevitably learn quicker away from the watchful gaze of parents, and you will be surprised at just how much they can learn in a week. Whether your child is trying sailing for the first time, or improving on advanced dinghy sailing techniques, we can assure you that you will not be disappointed. Please phone us personally to discuss your child’s individual requirements. On the Friday we like to give the children an extra special experience. Weather dependent, we will take them on an expedition for the full day where they can put all their hard earned knowledge into practice. Along with the sailing experience, they will be well drilled in personal safety and other considerations when afloat, as well as being introduced to basic chart work. They will all be fully involved in the decision making process, and will return full of confidence in their own sailing ability and capacity to contribute to a group exercise. The excellent location of the school ensures that it is very rare not to manage out on the water due to inclement weather conditions. There are however plenty of opportunities for shorebased learning and the children will gain extra knowledge on areas such as the weather, tides, ropework and chartwork in our chart room. “A lot of personal time and effort was put into instructing Joseph which avoided the pitfall of him sailing about aimlessly without any instruction.
